Memphis Farmer's Market Info

Our Mission

The mission of the Memphis Farmers Market is to serve as a community-gathering place where local farmers, producers and artisans can offer fresh agricultural and related products.

Our Goals:

  • Improve the community's nutrition options
  • Assist area farmers, producers, and artisans with sustainable business opportunities
  • Generate a sense of local pride while furthering the economic development of our community
  • Provide a vehicle to educate the community on nutrition and good health.

The Memphis Farmers Market (MFM) is incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Tennessee and has been designated as a federal 501(c)(4) organization by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations generally are not deductible as charitable donations, but they may be deductible as business expenses. Currently, the Memphis Center City Development Corporation (CCDC) serves as registered fiscal agent on behalf of the Memphis Farmers Market. The CCDC is an active 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our Environmental Philosophy

Starting in the 2008 season, the Memphis Farmers Market began supporting our new environmental philosophy and policies designed to encourage the use of recycled materials at the market, promote the use of alternative transportation to the market and increase awareness of all the environmental benefits of buying locally grown foods. We will be communicating this philosophy through our vendors and volunteers at the market as well as in our digital and print communications. To kick off this new policy, the market will offer recycling bins and encourage market patrons to shop with reusable bags and totes.

Learn more about our recycling and composting efforts.

Our Environmental Philosophy is founded on three areas of action:

Recycle

  • Encourage the use of recycled materials at the market
  • Encourage recycling of materials at the market

Reuse

  • Rather than purchasing new items, reuse readily available items
  • Encourage use of already used plastic bags and reusable totes

Rethink

  • Promote the use of alternative transportation to the market including the trolley, bus, scooter, golf carts, bikes, carpooling and walking.
  • Promote buying local and eating greener by buying locally grown foods rather than the “1,500 mile” meal.
